David is currently working towards a Ph.D. in Environmental Science, largely focused on the interplay between energy and economics. In addition to academic work, David contributes to The Oil Drum: Net Energy and is an independent consultant within the energy field. David has published in peer-reviewed journals; his recent articles analyze the minimum EROI for sustainable societies and review recent work within Energy Return on Investment (EROI) analysis. David's current research involves the spatial distribution of the EROI from corn-based ethanol, the influence of the Urban Heat Island on electricity demand, the EROI from unconventional natural gas, and the energy-GDP relation from a thermodynamic perspective.
