Gail Tverberg is a writer, consultant, and speaker on peak oil-related subjects. She writes as "Gail the Actuary" on The Oil Drum; many of her articles are also published on the Energy Bulletin. Ms. Tverberg is known for her writing on the expected financial impacts of peak oil; her peak oil educational materials; her writing for actuarial and insurance audiences; and her many investigative articles. Some of these include "The US Grid: Will It Be Our Undoing?"; "The Path from Petroleum Shortages to Electricity Shortages"; "Hawaii: Peak Oil Canary in a Coal Mine"; and "The Disconnect Between Reserves and Production".

Ms. Tverberg's training is as a casualty actuary. She has a MS in mathematics, and is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. Until early 2007, she worked as a consultant for Towers Perrin, where she specialized in medical malpractice insurance and in evaluating the impact of tort reforms. Her work on the financial and insurance aspects of peak oil have been featured in materials published by the Society of Actuaries on non-traditional careers for actuaries.
